Is it just me or do hunters and seekers spawn like crazy these days? I seem to encounter an endless stream of seekers followed by an even more endless supply of hunters. I’ve been in the Kilslaget area (Uttern bunker and Hjalmars Stuga) and my Gosh they are swarming in from all corners of the world. Uttern I survived fine, but NW of Hjalmars Stuga I found this wonderful, narrow canyon and went in there (first mistake). I spotted s harvester and a few runners at the far mouth, found cover behind s rock and thought “easy targets”. And they were! Took them all down (second mistake) . Then I moved towards my kills to claim my loot (third mistake), and three very angry hunters showed up. So I had to fall back. Just to discover that another three hunters had cut me off at the other mouth. And then three hunters appeared above me on the cliff sides. I had no other choice than to run right past the three hunters with my health at 18%. I ran for a depot with 9 hunters tailing me. In front of the depot a harvester was hanging out with a pack of runners and an additional few hunters. Inside the depot I used my remaining few health packs while taking down the harvester and a few runners. Now the hunters stepped in with gas, grenades, and bullets. Fresh out of first aid kits … I died. Three times, actually, but I only had two adrenaline shots. So I re-spawned at Hjalmars and ran back to the canyon (fourth mistake) only to discover that my harvester carcass (and thereby my loot) had disappeared, being replaced by a fresh set of hunters and seekers buzzing around my ears like mosquitos. Back to Hjalmars to take them out while standing on the washing basin. This repeated itself four times! At the end I almost couldn’t get out of the cabin for dead hunters (15 or so). Now back to the depot only to discover that the second harvester carcass had disappeared too (and thereby another batch of loot), this time being replaced by a runner and four seekers. So, if you are up for a good beating, take a stroll through the canyon NE of Hjalmers. I would claim that the machine AI is doing a pretty good job. They collaborated beautifully. Sorry for this very, very long story., and thank you for reading it.
Sounds like a fun session. I found that big ravine as well but thought, “Nope nope nope nope” when I considered entering it. Nope.
I love doing the me vs 10 hunters fight. Terrible in the woods or a town, but great in the open. When you are running for a church or house being pursued by a group of hunters actually makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
It was indeed. As it was frustrating as well. Something peculiar happens when it dawns at you, that this fight you are not going to survive. When health is low and health packs depleted, you can almost always retreat. If you run like the devil, usually the machines can’t adjust fast enough to hit you. And, as in this case, you are within a building, you can usually find a corner where even the gas can’t reach you. Then you sit down and let time pass, and eventually the machines will turn down their aggression and get on with their business. But I always find myself in a kind of devil-may-care state, and then I fight to the end. Irrational!
Do you know - that happens to people in real life, too. Bizarre that a game might mimic it, however imperfectly. Added to which, you sometimes just can’t bear to run away and give up the loot. “I killed it, I want to strip it!”
For sure. Losing your loot could be just as deadly as losing the battle in a survival situation.
I have never been at the point where I knew I would not survive. If it goes bad, I just kite and clip the baddies. Run, turn, shoot, and run again. You can almost always outrun them if you move perpendicular to the group, even a large group. You might not be able to lose them, but you can kite until you reach a church or safehouse. I might end up dying, but it is always a surprise.
Curiously enough, that is a tactic used IRL by really good infantry - it is called “A Withdrawal In Contact”, and is one of the most devastating military tactics. It is hard to do on your own, but much easier with two - one moves while the other is firing, they overtake one another in 20 yard dashes.
The enemy think they are winning, right up until they run out of people.
It takes practise, though: teamwork; communication; lack of obstacles (and an agreed direction of withdrawal)!
Yes, I can imagine that!
