Interesting locations

Haha yes! Get in!!! I’m so glad you gave it a go @Gysbert and impressed you made it to the tank head and even managed the ledge nearby in one piece! That drop isn’t forgiving at all, and most squads I’ve been with end up with more adrenaline shots wasted than selfies! :joy:

Love that you went full daredevil with the tank to edge jump too. It’s tricky even in daylight for me, let alone at night. Thanks for keeping an eye out for comets too! No shooting stars maybe… but that landing was definitely a five star performance! Uggghh:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Also curious to hear your conclusions on the tank’s odd anatomy and those cables, looks more engineered than accidental. Thought they were tank tracks at first glance, but I’m sure there’re not.

No doubt Aspholmen’s still holding secrets. There are definitely more intriguing spots out there worth exploring!

Well I think it’s 2 tanks down the rockface, because I believe I saw 2 heads, even though the light was minimal. The upper tank has its feet buried in the ground and hanging head down. It has two cables attached to itself and to the 2nd tank below. No sure anymore if they were hydraulic hoses. They looked more like rails. But you might want to check that out in daylight.

I hope so. I have been searching high and low and hope to do many more exploring expeditions. Some of the obvious spots are just begging for explanations as to what they are or used for. :point_left:

Came across this on Aspholmen Island. A Tank’s head, completely separated from its body, lying motionless in the grass. What made it stand out was the glowing eye. It wasn’t the usual angry red or alert orange. Instead, it glowed with an unusual cyan-blue light. Almost neon. Very unnatural but cool looking at night (like that other place where a tick is controlling a spotlight)

It’s not something I’ve seen before in the game. Have you good folk seen another Tanks eye like this? The eye colour alone suggests something different, maybe a shutdown state, maybe a scanning mode, or maybe just a machine in the middle of dying, clinging to its last bit of charge.

I’m starting to collect sightings of unusual machine behaviour too, so if you’ve come across any locations where machines are acting strangely, showing odd colours, turning up in places they normally shouldn’t be, or even using attachments that don’t match their class (this would be far fetched!) I’d really love to hear about it. Anything that feels a little “off” or out of place with these blighters really interests me!

I seen this head before, but the blue-ish light I don’t remember seeing, so I went to that spot and when I approached the eye was indeed blue-ish (but I did’nt make a picture yet), I ran toward its body then returned to the head and now the light was white. Not sure what that is about, I have seen clothing change colour too, so this could a colour bug.

Ah, that’s really interesting! I’ve never seen clothing colours shift but I get why you’d think it might be a colour bug.

But I don’t think that’s the case here. I actually tested it on three other players’ worlds, and they all saw the same blueish light. The head in your screenshot is actually a different one, about 37 meters NNE away. That one always has a white eye, so it’s possible you accidentally ran back to that one after checking the body, especially since they’re so close together.

That said, it’s also worth considering that the game can behave differently across platforms. I’ve definitely seen differences between Xbox and PC, especially when it comes to the location of loot boxes and ammo cases, so maybe there’s a platform specific quirk happening here too. Thanks for checking!! :grinning:

It can also just be a special thing to this location.
There are different locations that have their own behaviours for lighting, weather or even sound.

You’re right, some locations in this game just do their own thing. I’ve seen areas where the lighting changes dramatically depending on exactly where you’re standing. One step to the left and everything shifts tone or colour, step back and it reverts back to normal.

And it’s not just lighting, either. For example, not everyone can see the gnome lying down near the woodshed, it shows up for some players but not others, even in the same session. Why does this game have to gaslight us all? :joy:

One of my favorite examples is a small cabin I found deep in the woods on the south coast of Östertörn. It looked abandoned, but there were signs someone had been staying there recently—like fresh food wrappers and a working radio. It made me wonder if it was a survivalist hideout or maybe a resistance safe house.

As for those small concrete boxes on Himfjäll—could they be old military communications bunkers or ammo storage points? The layout feels very strategic.

Oh, you mean the Cube-shaped Vapenkassuns. Yes those are Ammo and weapon storages. You’ll find them on Ostertörn too.

Picture taken from the other side of the gorge, with scoped view I can just frame the two tank head’s eyes.

I visited the rock face and I think I can make out the words HELP US. I’ve marked it faintly in red below. Why it would appear in English and seemingly formed from natural rock I’m not sure. Most likely, it’s a case of pareidolia. Great find though @Gysbert :grinning:

Yes, it’s definitely a case of Pareidolia. Interesting word though, I first thought it spelled Paranoia. Some time back I had found another case of Pareidolia. Looking to the island before it was called Aspholmen, the shapes of the rocks see from a certain angle looked like a lying dog.

Not sure if it still can be seen now the island has undergone so many changes.

It’s a great word! Simulacrum is another brilliant Fortean word for the same phenomenon. I love how both terms capture that strange line between imagination and pattern recognition.:grinning:

I actually went searching for the famous turtle rock last week but couldn’t find it anywhere! But now I’ll definitely be hunting for this wonderful dog formation too. Always up for a good bit of Östertörn pareidolia spotting! I’ll try not to draw any paranoid conclusions if I find something!
I’m often guilty of seeing meaning in pareidolia where there is none, tying into that broader idea of mistaking correlation for causation, just because we see something doesn’t mean it ‘means’ something. But in a world like Östertörn, where strange details are around every corner, it’s hard not to let your mind run with it a bit!

This location has probably been shared before, but did anyone mention the unique sound here? It’s my favourite noise in the whole game! It’s in the Archipelago region : 2546.619. 2880.809

Here, a half-dead military tank lies with a dead soldier slumped against it. At the point I’m at in the screenshot, if you approach the tank’s head slowly, it lets out this deep, low-frequency mechanical groan; like a dubstep drop mixed with a dying moose.

If you’ve got a decent subwoofer hooked up, it shakes the room. It’s the tank’s final breath, and it really demonstrates just how massive and powerful these hulks are, even in death.

If you throw a field radio down nearby, you can fast travel away from the region and then jump right back in to experience that ultra-low frequency scream all over again. Hands down the most intense sound for me Exquisite industrial horror!

In my 5266 hour gameplay  in GZ I have visited that site often. The sound is indeed intense, and it’s very cool that it can be experienced more than once.

You’ve probably got about double what I’ve managed! I’ve heard it takes 10,000 hours to truly master something. So you’re already well on your way to becoming a Generation Zero grandmaster!

GZ is just half the game it could have been… So gysbert already is the grandmaster!

But in all those hours I played I didn’t dedicate it all to combat, that’s why I’m only at level 235, I only fight when I am being attacked and I regularly do the base assaults / defends / for extra resources.

So what level are you? :coffee:

790h, lvl82 or 83.

Haven’t done base defense for a long time now, but I don’t really need the ressources in general. I usually don’t craft that much. I have all that I need… Or I find it.
