Hey guys,
I’m currently looking for a laptop and I need some input, some experiences from you.
My about 12 years old pc has game over and with my next device I want to be more mobile in my house.
It’s mostly used for some office stuff, but it should also be able to play some nice games in good quality. Idk which ones… It just should be able to…
I have no idea about which specifications are good combinations. I never had a laptop before, just built some desktop PCs in the past, but that’s already 12 years ago. Finally it shouldn’t cost that much, definitly below 900€… The lower, the better.
I just found a MSI GF63 with i5 12450, 16gb ddr4 ram, 512gb SSD and a rtx4050 for about 600€. Sounded quite good.
There are many devices with a rtx3050, some with ddr5 ram, some with 13th Gen pentium cpu. What is more important to be save for some years?
Do you have any recommendations?
Thx in advance.
While im not an I.T guy, i´ve had mid spec gaming laptops since a late teen.
Considering how game specs are today, unless you only play indie games and own less than 30 titles you should get one with at least 1 tb ssd and 24 or 32GB RAM, any Rtx since the 3050 is good unless you are a 4k crazy dude, but there are newer models now.
And i suggest to get a good cooler pad, KLIM WIND has some that are quite good and dont feel cheap, it will improve the performance at least 2/5% and it will be less hot during gaming.
But yeh that one is not expensive, just dont forget that 16GB RAM in 5 years will be like 8 GB RAM is now…not enough.
Its a rare thing these days a mid specs gaming laptop.
Usually laptops till 600 Euros dont even have a graphic card to run games, its usually only from 750.
Asus TUF has been selling well, and so has the ACER Predator and ACER V Nitro, but they re not top of the line, the better ones are usually above the 2000€/$
However as im sure some will tell you, its preferable to have a desktop PC, they can be upgraded along the way in a cheaper way than with laptops, i just don like to have big towers at home, even the PS5 seems too big for my taste…

I always had desktop PCs, upgraded them, played games, modded, and then got kids and lost my pc-room. I switched to consoles for gaming, but now I’m just too lazy to go upstairs to my PC for little office stuff. I want to do it where I like…and maybe come back to gaming for some nice rts games, which are simply better on PC.
Yeah, I should look at if the laptop is upgradeable regarding the SSD and the ram.
A rtx3050 really is enough? I don’t need 4k on a small screen and even if I attach my two 27" displays, they are not able to display 4k…
Thx

Mr A put it about perfectly, I would definitely recommend getting a desktop if nothing else just for the price, but you need a laptop you might find yourself spending a good amount of money on one. It’s tough to find laptops with semi good specs that aren’t super expensive

Yes, Some laptops can be upgraded, but it depends from model to model, and it might be tricky to do it and much more expensive.
So i would say, get a good deskop which is at the price of a mid specs laptop, under 1000 Euros.
Or get a good medium laptop (between 900 and 2000 Euros) because upgrading might be too complicated or costly on a Laptop.
1 TB ssd is really needed these days with the usual big game file size, and just to make you think, even new strategy games are recomended to have 16GB RAM, AA and AAA games are even getting more demanding.
Do tells us what you eventually get.
I ve even been looking for one good enough and not too much expensive for the last year
@dogcoffee Interestingly 10 years ago it was easy to find mid spec gaming laptops, but now its quite rare.

About 4 or 5 years ago I used to use a gaming laptop, it worked great on nearly every game I played, even some harder to run games like dayZ it could even manage. But after a couple years it got to the point it was so bad I couldn’t play hardly anything on it anymore, and any new games that came out didn’t matter because I couldn’t run anything lol. Now I just stick with desktop
most gaming laptops are super expensive, best to stick to console tbh, or just move you pc you alerady have.

Xbox 550 €/600 in the US
PS5 Slim 550
PS5 PRO 799 (no disk reader)
Switch 2 will be 600 soon?
Game Pass and PS plus prices are expensive
Some games might get to 80
Long gone are the days where 5 year old consoles would be less 100 or 200 euros/dollars and game subscription services would be more affordable and fair.
And with a computer its more fast and reliable to work, watch movies, use programs than it is with a console.
So yes, its cheaper but not that much cheap.
(I own a PS5 btw)
If you want a good pc that can hit high fps in games like this brand new it’s well over 1000 dollars lol, just for the pc, where console already comes with what you need, and generally most people already have a tv to use for it of course. If you want a full, quality pc setup you’re looking at of course the pc itself, the monitor, a nice mouse and keyboard, mic/headset, all of it. Heck my desktop mic alone cost me $120. If you get a good pc setup it’s gonna cost you considerably more than a console. In my opinion though it’s still very worth it, as long as you have the money to put down on a good pc. And don’t forget we buy all the same games, and a lot of the time the same subscriptions as you would. And not only that, most consoles can sit there for years without having to worry about replacing or upgrading parts, where on a pc you may spend hundreds on upgrading hardware over the years.
Look.
What i meant was that in the past ,consoles were much more cheaper than a PC.
But the gap in price between them keeps coming close, while consoles cant do much that a PC can do or at least not in a confortable and efficient way.
Besides some moded games and strategy games i prefer to play games in consoles to PC in general, but in the long run its getting more cost effective to own a PC than a console, PC games are also cheaper unless you only buy COD and some AAA titles, you could even get pirate copies lol.
So basically, consoles are no longer low cost due to the industry greed, and in case you havent heard, the console wars ended with the users, US, losing.
Consoles are so much more expensive than they used to be for sure, it’s almost sad to look at the console prices now. The gap is being closed but, we would literally have to see consoles start going for 800-900 for it to be close to a pc of the same quality as a console. But, I suppose they aren’t too far off from 700 already so they probably will one day. As of now though you’re still exactly right about consoles being more cost effective than pc
PS5 PRO is 799.99 EUROs in most of Europe already.
PS6 is probably going to be 900 in a few years.
That means its equivalent is one of the Pcs at 900 and 1000 that while are a bit more cheap than Better models, they have at least 16/32 GB ram and 512/1 tb SSD and rtx from 1350 to 4070 (Or the AMD equivalent).
At least i can get those here.
We are almost there.
Like I said above it’s 900-1000 just for the pc, that’s why it’s still not close yet, you gotta buy a monitor, mic and/or headset, mouse and keyboard, even storage drives if you have a pre-built. It’s hundreds of extra dollars in equipment with the pc. I literally have a budget mid-spec pc and my whole setup is still over 900 dollars. A brand new, fresh from Walmart ps5 is the same price as a garbage can pc setup, and it’s not gonna be close for at least a little while still because pc parts are also going up, especially more expensive parts like cards. If you buy a ps5, you don’t need any extras at all, and most people already have a tv of course. Most you would have to buy for a console would be a headset and maybe an extra controller. Not saying you’re necessarily wrong though, console prices have increased an insane amount, and heck one day they might go over 1000 dollars. In my personal opinion we’re not going to see that for a few more console generations though, I mean most people don’t want to even buy ps5s for the price, imagine if they get any worse

yeah I guess you could say so, laptops are pretty handy and more capable of doing other tasks, but I agree though, even though gaming laptops are a little… obnoxious, I still find them great. Honestly i’ve been playing through Xbox Cloud Gaming. It runs super well even on low end devices (maybe not all) and i’m even able to play games 4K at 60 frames consistently on a school Chromebook lol
