I mostly agree with @tene
I see no big problem.
This is not War thunder or one of EA´s games with loot boxes.
And I doubt the weapons will be overpowered, and if we talk about “balance” there is already no balance playing adventure or even skirmish with 2 or 3 other users, its overkill, no machines can withstand the firepower of 4 non noob players…many times not even from 1 player.
We can always play solo, and play how we want, or with friends we want to play, the way we want to play.
As long as the developers keep upgrading the game and bringing new content at reasonable prices (as it´s been) it´s actually okay, the game get richer and don´t forget one thing, we still don´t know all the details about this DLC.
Things were a lot worst a few months ago, having a broken or semi broken game for the console versions and the PC version being in full pause development.
It’s Not!?
Exactly man, and if i can throw a couple bucks towards the devs every once in a while to help keep that from happening again (though covid is mostly to blame) I’ll happily do so. I think the logic of the game getting more consistent funding, to increase the man power behind stuff like QA and development, is pretty intact!
It’s only a small piece of the experience
Ah, I remembered other stuff I’d like to convey about “paying for guns in non-competitive PvE”.
Coincidentally it happened with another sweddish game developer, that had big playerbase.
I’m talking about time when Overkill Sofftware was still with shady dealings before they could fully bought themselves and introduced cringest of all design chioces - “cases with keys” in Payday2 (or "safes and drills). Cases contained weapon skins, occasionally with small boosts. That created huuuuge backlash from playerbase and been bitter about this for a very long time, even when keys(drills) were phased out later and even when that boost is overridden by “special attachment”. Stat boosts are miniscule, but players were angry about the fact of introduction of this.
I’m writing this here as reminder. Even GZ isn’t that popular as PD2, I still want to meet more people online.
Yup, that’s why the devs invested in the Reaper and a weapon pack
Yeah that’s why they put 10x the amount of effort into the map overhauls.
Keep your shallow perspective, you might find the bottom of it someday.
Generation Zero goes Call of Duty in order to cater to Americans. What made this game unique is going away, DLC by DLC and update by update.
I think the devs bringing out these new guns is good. As long as they are not really OP, it is a great thing, and I would be completely fine spending money to support gz, as they have given me hours of awesome gaming
Spewing hate is a bit hard strong, It’s because we don’t really have the full picture that concerns me. Are these weapons gonna be meta changing? If they are better than base game guns then it’s pay 2 win, as you’re paying for stronger guns. They need to be properly balanced. One thing that I am disappointed with is that they are American guns. Guns like the M16 were never used by the Swedish military during the cold war. Also these new guns are extremely common within FPS games, so this pack looks more like a cashgrab to me. I wanna support the devs and I’ll buy this pack either way so I can review it. But they could and should have used weapons that would fit more with the game instead of generic ones .
Again I figure it has to do with future story developments
It makes sense
There are several messages in game from nato and the soviets telling th3 player they are aware of the crisis in sweden and are preparing troops to deploy on swedish soil. Also if we head down this road we may get several community requested features
But if you don’t want the weapons you simply don’t have to install it
I am going to get them either way to review them, but tell me how does American guns make sense? While the soviets say oh hey we are gonna help you and stuff, you forget about the last mission where they send you on a suicide mission. The Soviets don’t wanna help to save Sweden, they are doing it for their own gain. Sweden and the Soviet Union weren’t all that friendly during the cold war. Even though the US is a part of nato, historically Sweden never imported US small arms during the cold war, only a few heavy and medium-light machine guns.
But they also never had a Machine invasion. So I don’t really mind that a fantasy game and its lore, which has its setting in 1980 Sweden, isn’t perfectly restricted to real Swedish live from that period. Weapons from all kind of countries can find there way into Sweden by other means than official import. As long as the weapons are from the same 1980s period it should be OK.
Sorry if this is seen as cross posting, but I just gotta copy-paste something I wrote under Reaper feedback…
It’s always the same…
Players request bikes, and get them. Players complain that bikes are stupid and useless.
Players request Plundra, and gets it. Players complain it’s too big, it’s too small, it’s unrealistic, it’s OP!
Players request more powerful weapons, and get them. Players complain that new weapons are OP.
Players request new inventory, and gets it. Players complain and suddenly want the old one back.
Players request crafting, and gets it. Players complain it’s unnecessary and makes things too easy.
I can’t wait to hear your complaints on the Reaper, and why you want it removed… I got popcorn.
And now… players have requested a shit ton of different new weapons ever since the game released, and now when we get them, they complain it’s not what the wanted, it’s not lore friendly, new guns need a backstory, new guns make no sense, blah, blah, blah…
I’m glad that Polish guerilla fighters during WWII didn’t whine about all those Stens, Thompsons, M1911s, etc. they got from air drops
“This western crap shouldn’t be here”
Big problem is that when people ask for stuff, the interpretation of how it should be done and implemented doesn’t always translate between players and devs. And honestly new things that get added in the game often feel like it’s basic and not implemented very well.
Bikes as transportation is a good idea as they barely make noise compared to cars, problem is that current in game bikes have sluggish controls and thus are annoying to steer. They are also hard to use use on anything that isn’t a flat surface.
The plundra one I ain’t to sure about, I haven’t seen much complaining about it.
The experimental aren’t bad per say, and in terms of progression it makes sense for them to be a endgame rewards. It’s more so about rivals in general, as enemies they are the same ones we fight only difference is that they have a new name. You aren’t fighting new harder enemies you are fighting the RNG. It’s the process of getting them at isn’t fun.
I actually liked the new inventory, especially the change to weight based. For this one it’s the navigation that is the main issue. It’s a bunch of tabs and vertical lists, finding items and eqiping them takes far longer compared to the old one. At times it gets very slow and frustrating to use, it doesn’t need to be removed it needs to be improved.
Crafting in it’s current form feels somewhat unnecessary because for clothing items they aren’t fun to look for. Recipes are scattered randomly and while exploration is good, searching the whole map for a very tiny object isn’t fun. And when you find one it turns out you need the previous level version to craft the higher level one. The stats doesn’t make a whole lot of difference aswell. In the end you’ll end up using the wiki site for locations. The process is tedious, as for ammo and med crafting it negates the need to search and in some cases kill machines at all. In the end it makes the game easy because there’s no fear when fighting machines when you know that you’re a god.
As for the reaper I don’t like it’s current form as it’s a reskin of a apoc tank with a shield and desperation attack. There’s no presentation like when it was realvead in Apline Unrest, just a higher level rival that appears on the map. It doesn’t offer a good enough loot pool as the only unique items are the cosmetic FOA exo suit thing and the EXP sledgehammer. Other than that you get ammo and crafting stuff. Sure it’s got a higher level chance of giving EXP guns, but you might aswell grind for regular rivals instead.
Finnally as for the American guns I’ve already stated my opinion about it. It’s not like I want new guns, but the M16 is so common with FPS games it’s a surprise that it isn’t already in GZ. By using unique cold war weapons used by the Swedish the military the game made it self more unique that way.
If anything I’d assume nato would help the swedish to expand they’re sphere of influence for political reasons against the soviets
If they ever added a British guns pack we could hopefully see the bren gun https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bren_light_machine_gun Also the L42A1 or L96A1 British sniper rifles might be a nice middle ground for between PVG and alg. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L42A1
Actually ignore the part about the sniper I actually just found out the L96A1 is the British version of the PSG (PVG in GZ)
The PSG is not the PVG. The PSG is a 7.62 caliber rifle. Same caliber as the L96A1. So either of those could fit in between the PVG, and alg. The PVG is a .50 caliber. Not based on the PSG rifle.
