Sound / audio get lost / disappear over time (footsteps, reload, etc)

In the patch notes it was stated that: “Fixed an issue with SMOD where no reload or footstep sounds were heard in first person”
…but today, after barely 25min of gameplay I couldn’t hear any footstep or reloading sounds.
I was playing solo, 90% just walking around, no fast travel.

This bug looks like it’s hard to squash. It’s so weird though, sometimes one can play for hours without sound issues, sometimes I swear it happens 5 minutes into gameplay.

So I had a quick play for about one and a quarter hour. The reload sounds seem to be stable which is very appreciated

On the other hand it seems sounds still get lost or even don’t appear at all. For some reasons it seems to be even worse with the Landfall update. In addition the char makes some odd rattling sounds now and then in very unregular gaps inbetween.

I made a quick compilation of all sound issues over this play session:

Can anyone confirm this?
@knobitobi, if you’re on PC, did you try verifying your Steam files?

I’m on PC and I verified them. The verification process didn’t find damaged files. Win10 is up to date.

Ich kann diese Fehler bestätigen. !!!

Google ;

I can confirm these errors. !!!

Hello, I bought Generation Zero® - Complete Collection on Steam around July 2021.
At that time I played about 60 hours and then stopped and uninstalled because of the sound bugs.

I have a mid-range PC with Windows 11, after the new update (The Landfall Update) I installed General Zero NEW via Steam. My Nvidia and system drivers are up to date.
I don’t have any other problems with any other game, even early access runs perfectly.

I think it’s really a shame that you can’t manage to fix such errors, it takes all the fun out of the game.!!!

PS:I also started a whole new game (charekter) with the update!

Just started playing GZ a couple of days ago. I am on an xbox series s. Have played multiplayer with a few friends. After doing the second bunker area I am no experiencing the same sound bug. Wondering if the dev’s are still working on this? Such a great start to a game and now this.

As far as I know they are aware of the new rattling noises but I don’t know whether they know about other sound problems. Here is an example of even worse rattling sounds:

As an unfortunate addition: the reload sounds are not stable 100%. While they are more stable, it still looses them over time. Need to prepare a clip for that too.

I noticed that a “new location discovered” audio notification never happened for the Talludden location while I was trying to reproduce a bug. The first time I discovered it, the audio cue played, but not the second time I loaded the same save. :man_shrugging:

A post was merged into an existing topic: Weird Disembodied Machine Sounds - Audio heard from dead and despawned machines

Well I just found out that the rattling is also audible in the distance when containers are nearby. Additional to the awkward noise all around the player, this makes the atmosphere a bit more eerie then necessary

I’ve recently returned to the game and have found that the sfx bug is still a thing along with the others mentioned I’ve been having the same issue when I’m close proximity to vessian bunker the aside from that this bug always seems to take away like you said discovering a new location sound and also the xp notification sound after it and most map sounds too like placing a waypoint scrolling around on the map and hovering over icons all are silent and are still the same this is June now 2022 and I’ve experienced this since launch had this issue on Xbox one and also the series x so it’s widespread between platforms

Oh I wondered what the sound of an ammo box being opened constantly was

I think that has something to do with the rendering/placing of those containers as can be observed here:

In my perception, everytime a container is placed somewhere nearby the sound gets played. In remote areas where no loot container is close this sound is not audible. But when being near those containers the sounds can be heard all the time. In addition the sounds are only played when the player has moved (rotate or walk/run). I hope the devs can fix the sound bugs especially this one since I think they only need to check whether the player has interacted with the container or if it was placed and then play or don’t play the sound.

No sound reloading weapons on xbox series x. Footsteps and breathing are gone. I’ve searched online and tried every fix. Nothing. After having put countless hours into this game I just reached level 24. The audio glitches kill immersion. This seems to have been a known issue for a long time, but still hasn’t been fixed.

I’m done. Too frustrating. Too bad.

Moved to report thread covering the issue.
