Would a ferry from the alpine unrest dlc island to the other new island be possible or at least a good idea?

A route to the little island DjupskÀret would be a welcome new area to visit, even though it is too small to have a lot to find. A bridge from HimfjÀll to DjupskÀret would be more likely then a ferry, I think. To get to the big New Island North of HimfjÀll we probably will use the bridge near SungÄrd. But a ferry could be a possibility.

Yes, that the bridge near SungÄrd I mentioned.

Why not indeed, a starter mission to get to the island. We don’t know what the devs have in mind on how to get to the big unknown Island. Maybe they have some bridges miraculously restored, as soon we install the Update or DLC.

If the devs ever open the island they will probably make a bridge building mission. You need to escort several concrete trucks driven by Bennie from Östervik to the location near SundgĂ„rd.

The idea came from Anita. She was worried that the soda stock in the hotel get pretty low and heard from people from the future that there is still soda on the new island. Since Bennie gained some weight he thought being a truck driver fits more to his figure.

The people used the secret car in Granhöjden. But since time travel is only possible in one direction according to laws of physics they replaced the gearbox against one from an Vol
erm Ville 340 and drove 80 km/h backwards so the whole world except the car moves forward in time :joy:

I like the idea of the concrete trucks to mend the bridge near SungĂ„rd, because those trucks we haven’t seen in the game before. Or building a military pontoon bridge is another idea where the Player and Benny have to pick up all the pontoon parts, and connect them together to cross the ‘strait of Östertörnsundet’.

I think that there will be soda on the new Island to soothe Benny’s needs, and he can get them when the bridge, or Ferry is built. Then he can travel forwards in his Ville 340 ( also new?), because forward in time is always to the future.

Story wise easiest bridge would be a Brobandvagn 941 bridge layer that would have conveniently been found from some random army base by player or NPC.

Swedish army have had those since -70’s (the Brobandvagn has been updated twice since that; Brobv 971 and 120) and it would historically match with the game.

Where would you employ it? At the banks near existing bridge which is about 145 meters? The banks further north of the strait, where it is narrowest, the terrain is getting too rough and steep.

I’ve enjoyed following this thread since it was started, our community always comes up with fun and cool ideas

Armies don’t know the words “too rough” or “too steep” when they basically have one of the best earth moving machinery in their disposal. If the regular bridge layer doesn’t have enough reach for the opposite shore, then there is the pontoon bridges option. Way faster to rig up that than starting to jury rigging a broken bridge by civilian forces and resources.

Who destroyed the existing bridges on Östertörn when the invasion began? The machines? If they target bridges, then deploying a new one is no good.

The best idea that comes go my mind is to build floating gangplanks along the base of the broken bridge at SungÄrd. They would perhaps seem an insignificant target to the machines, and also allow people to cross in relative concealment.

A ferry at SungÄrd would be too exposed, so I agree that this option is better suited at the location suggested by the OP.

At first I don’t think the machines destroyed the bridges, I think it was the military rather than retreating. So I could imagine that a makeshift bridge would not be of particular interest to the bots. The only thing is that maybe some runners and hunters could follow us over the footbridge. A makeshift ferry, similar to the one to Hjimfall, would make more sense. My two cents

My idea from Vision was to include not only a way of crossing to the other islands, but an event sequence of fighting machines every time you cross. The mechanic is already there for a point to point. crossing from the one at the docks to Himfjall.

Boat / Ferry / Amphibious vehicle could all work, I hope they consider it in the future.

 Maybe they don’t. But I guess they will have the common sense to cross the strait where it is easiest. There is a high mountain ridge all along the strait on the other island.

Narrowest spot 71 meters

Looking right.

Looking left.

What be cool though, if the Old FNIX base on Tylöveden mountain had an entrance that leads via underground bunker tunnels and crosses the strait to another FNIX structure. And that would be the way to cross for the first time.

The idea with the bunker sounds cool

Using your Map @Gysbert I see a little bay here which coincidentally is right across from a safe house, it would make sense for a bridge/boat or some way of access to the new island to be there because it would match the Alpine Unrest DLC, unless the devs decide to do something different of course :upside_down_face:

Hmm
on my last visit to the island there was nothing to see but that was quite some time ago
 :man_shrugging:

But on the other hand on HimfjÀll there was nothing to see either before the DLC was released. Ecxept 2 (iIrc) safehouse spots and some machines patrolling the wasteland (Hunters, Runners and Seekers)

Fun fact about that little island DjupskÀret

Back at that time it had a somewhat different shape and topography and there was a solid landbridge from HinfjÀll. So things may change a lot

True, they could cross here as well. There are many places where you can cross. But wouldn’t you be a tiny bit disappointed if it was just a bridge or another cable-ferry?

Probably would be a little disappointed if it was exactly the same
