Guess where it is? (refering to recent tweet)

I agree, we find lots of places with apples that are not connected. Best to look for additional clues that make it more likely be connected.

The location of this message is not that hard to find, but how do you think he was fooled?

You’ve seriously got the best location questions! @Gysbert this one’s been a real head scratcher! But…….

I found the location! it’s that isolated shack northeast of Boo.

What I didn’t realise until now is that there are actually two notes on the bed inside. One says “I will not be fooled again”, and the other simply says “A friend.”

Here’s my theory: these notes might be rough drafts, possibly intended as different responses depending on how you complete the mission An Invitation; whether you go through with the ritual or choose to destroy it.

It feels like they’re tied to the killer’s emotional state at the end of the story. If you disrupt the ritual, maybe the killer believes you’ve betrayed their trust, hence the cold, final line: “I will not be fooled again.” On the other hand, “A friend” could be a message meant for if you went along with the ritual, suggesting a connection or moment of understanding.

But who the hell is the killer?

From what I understand so far reading on the forum and from what I remember, the faction behind these creepy apple themed murder scenes, sometimes referred to as “The Growing Tree” might not be a group at all. According to one of your older posts, it could actually be the work of a single disturbed fella called Kenneth, based on what Marja says it being a person. He’s possibly the one staging these ritualistic displays with bodies and apples in some really unsettling spots I’ve visited. But how’d you get this name??? I can’t find any evidence to link this chap to the murders! It’s probably blinding obvious but it’s eluding me.

It all ties into the “Apple Mystery” (also known as “An Invitation” ) mission I mentioned earlier that was added in the Landfall DLC. You trigger it after discovering the scenes and reading a resistance newsletter. It eventually leads you to a remote barn and then to that surreal orchard near Averholm. But even after all that, I could never actually meet or confront the killer. He just disappears (apart from a bug I had and could get up close to him!).

But… I’ve got a theory of my own.
Cue dramatic music… duh-duh-duhhhhhh… it’s Marja!

Yes, Marja, the Resistance newspaper editor, the friendly voice behind the newsletters, the one keeping everyone “informed”.

She’s in a unique position of influence within the community and is the only person we know of who receives a letter from the so called “Growing Tree” faction. As you say, she refers to them not as a group, but possibly as a single person. Her language is deliberately vague.

Throughout the newsletters, she uses the word “growth” three times and “growing” once, which feels a little on the nose. She even mentions that some people have called her manipulative. That could be nothing… or it could be a veiled confession.

She also mentions her son, Nikolai, who mysteriously falls ill. She says he recovers, but what if… he didn’t? What if his death is what pushed her over the edge?

Now, I’ve noticed other details.

If you go to Marja’s office at the Östervik Post Office, you’ll find two apples sitting on the back porch, an obvious reference to killer’s calling card. But the most telling part is the makeshift tunnel behind the post office. It leads to a hidden area where someone has constructed a mannequin-like figure made from wood and a melon, it’s even holding a gun. You can find very similar ‘objects as people’ figures at the isolated shack northeast of Boo, one of the key locations in the Apple Tree mystery.

Even stranger right next door on the left to the post office is a clothes and flower shop with what appears to be a party supply shop on a table outside, complete with the same party hats you find at several of the killer’s murder scenes.

And just to the right of the post office there’s what looks like an old warehouse appliance shop, but it’s been repurposed into some kind of makeshift office. Tucked off to the side is a sealed room you can’t access, and through the broken glass you can just make out a conspiracy board, the classic kind with red strings criss-crossing everywhere.

And right in the center of it all?
Marja’s face.

She even reports on one of the missing people, Börje Person, someone likely killed by the Apple Tree Killer. Was she just reporting it…Or was she documenting her own work?

Could Marja be hiding something darker beneath her role as a Resistance writer?
Is the Apple Tree Killer not a broken survivor… but a respected voice within the community?

The number of comments for this tropic is also scarily getting near to 666 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I wonder if probably bunker 666 will open next post. :joy:

Interesting theories.
Btw, the article and the face of Marjan… I didn’t even know her name until now, or just forgot it…

“Om mig” as headline means “about me”. The headline at the top means “for a better future”. Finally… It could be interesting to visit all the pinned locations.
But I don’t think that there is a connection to the apple murderer.

COMMENT 666 :japanese_goblin:

Hahaha!!! :joy::joy::joy: It bloody was staring me in the face!!! Unfortunately, I agreed with you about Marja before you showed me the truth of the name! It’s was way too convoluted a theory and I wasn’t basing any of my assumptions on concrete evidence. Thanks for the translations as well “about me” and “for a better future” definitely adds some weight when you read them in context. Gives her a bit more personality, whether or not she’s involved in anything shady.

Visiting all the pinned spots and piecing together the weird overlaps could be very fun, even if it turns out to be pure atmosphere. Half the mystery is just in the searching! :eyes:

Welldone you found the location of the killer’s hut. :point_left:

There was a lot of detective work done to gather all the available clues, which led to the following 99% sure conclusion. :coffee:

Let’s try something new. This time no visual picture of a location to find, but a description of a location. Below you see a location that has 5 radar masts, with on each mast a small satellite disk. Can you just from memory think of another location that also has 5 small satellite disks? (I excluded procedural locations.)

Is the searched location on ostertörn, too, or could it also be on himfjäll?

Loving this game! another tough one! I can’t quite remember a location like that off the top of my head, so I’ll have to jump on after work and explore, hopefully that’s not considered cheating!

I’ll take a wild guess though… does the FOA facility north of the lake, the one with the lab, have five dishes? Something about that place is ringing a bell.

Also, can I ask, what exactly are procedural locations in GZ? I always thought the entire GZ map was hand crafted, so now I’m really curious!! :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Some locations offer procedual missions. The side missions that are changing weekly.

I have a location in mind on Östertörn, but since it’s an open question, there might be one on Hilmfjäll too.

I give up!!! I’ve been all over Östertörn hunting for that cluster of five masts with dishes (not even using my memory!) and it’s like they’ve vanished into thin air. The Aspholmen one in your photo is clear as day, but I can’t find similar elsewhere! It’s got me completely lost. I honestly thought I knew this map better than my own city. Think I’m about to quit GZ for good now!

@Gysbert I’m officially offering you 3 Soviet data (freshly stolen) and a 5C Moller in exchange for a single clue. I’ll even throw in a boombox. Help a hunter out, pretty please!

:man_shrugging:You should not look for masts, you look for a location that has 5 of these small satellite dishes.

  • Clue it’s surrounded by many trees, not on Aspholmen, and it’s only building is made of stone.

You legend! The hunt continues….

I’ve just spent five and a half hours solid searching, and I still can’t find it anywhere. Knowing it’s not about masts but five small satellite dishes helps… kind of.

You said it’s surrounded by trees, not on Aspholmen, and near the only building made of stone but I still can’t track it down! I can’t find any building made of stone! I’ve checked every church I could think of, every forest clearing, every tucked away corner of the map and everything’s made of bloody wood or concrete! This one’s got me completely fooled!!
I really thought I was a GZ pro… but this has completely humbled me. Turns out I’m just stumbling around like a total rookie.

You took the clue the wrong way. This location has just one building, a lone stone building. So no cabin, no shed, no barn, no farm, no house, no hut, no stable.

  • 2nd clue: It has stairs, but is not near water, and it has evidence / stuff of human activity.

This one’s been my toughest challenge in Generation Zero yet! You’d think a single stone building, especially with dishes nearby, would be easy to spot. I’ve even recruited three other players to help with the search! Looks like you’ve outsmarted us all… for now. I’m not giving up!

I’m giving up! A further 2 hours with my friends and I searching far and wide at each point of the compass bore little fruit. An interesting visual glitch by some castle ruins was our sum total. Failures, the lot of us! :sob:

That nailed it for me…

West of rusaberget, where you can find the strange glasses?

A tower made of stone with trees surrounding and stairs. No water nearby and a small camp.
