Well, I checked just now in new game, and the sounds are not there. But I also checked the averholm Orchard, and there is at new game, only a barn, the spooky atmosphere only appears after we do the “Growing Tree” mission I guess. Maybe the creams also only appear after certain missions are done.
I didn’t check it in a new game yet, but the last times I were there in my world 1, there also were no such sounds at bunker 666.
Problem is we only know for sure if we play all missions from scratch. But that would be cool to do while we wait for something new. Hopefully some more narrative to fill in gaps of info.
I wonder why this was added. “Dead trees on top of a cave” set piece. In the cave you can see the roots coming through the cave ceiling. They died because of lack of water and nourishment. Not a good place for trees to grow. There’s death inside the cave as well.

The pugilist enigma
I strongly believe that this photo of a pugilist is another dev tribute. The photo is prominently placed in an Iron Church scene in Room 301. While it might be mistaken for a picture of the Pope of the Iron Church, the likeness isn’t quite right. It seems possible that a developer who like boxing, and who worked on the Room 301 scene left the company, and that the GZ-Team included his photo as a tribute.
Please discuss if you have other ideas.
Additionally, Room 301 features the typical Iron Church weights together with “Stick!” graffiti. This suggests that the “Iron Church” faction is also responsible for the Swedish warning texts (“Stick!”) found throughout the GZ-world, similar to the several hunter sword scenes we encounter.
After re-examining all the different clues about the identity of the person behind the growing tree faction (apple murders) I am now quite sure that we can definitely identify the Guy based on Lore clues.
Spoiler
The person behind the apple murders in Kenneth Larsson who currently resides in the ringfort.
Kenneth must have gone crazy because of what happened to his family.
The most compelling evidence is that Kenneth’s family home at Pärlsjövägen 1 is the same address where The Growing Tree asked people to bring apples in exchange for food and other resources.
Kenneth in his role as Apple murderer wore a gasmask and raincoat to avoid recognition, however his tenger build and height fit that of the teenager Kenneth Larsson.
- Motive
His parents and brother Hendrik vanished from their car
and his Aunt: Dr. Ingrid Granqvist got murdered in her kitchen
It’s still not clear to me why Kenneth resorted in killing humans and not machines, and why the peculiar apple rituals? And if the name “The growing Tree” has a deeper meaning or not.
His victims range from Swedish military, Soviet military, Resistance members, Iron church members/ civilians)
Please discuss…
I guess it’s a mix of madness, bad experiences and revenge, but I’m no profiler.
I am not a profiler either, but we still could speculate why the murders on humans. Together we know more. I don’t know if the apple murderer has the full picture of what led up to Cataclysm day, but if he does he might blame the military and Holberg for making FNIX happen.
Maybe he also blames the Averholm Apple Cider company for escalating the power struggle between humans & FNIX. That company’s family are probably the leaders of the Iron Church and that might be a reason for the apple rituals?
I had some more thought about “The Growing Tree” Faction. He thinks he’d save this wretched world with his rituals. What if the Apple ritualist did not kill people, but was making use of the corpses which are found all over the place? Would that not be more believable?
So what do you think; does the guy kill people for his rituals or is it likely that he uses corpses?
Then there is the case of the murdered (fraternal) twins, where we needed to investigate the clues to find out more about the twins and solve the double murder.
1st clue: The twins were both shot by a single shot to the back of the head at point blank range. So not by machines, nor by an axe.
2nd clue: We find a Blackmail letter, it says:

- Are the dead fraternal twins Lisa & Louis?
- What is the significance of the dot matrix text?

To the detectives on this forum: In what house lived Elsa Khorsandi’ before she went to Himfjäll? From her Bio we know her address is Hagabodavagen 23 Boo.
I can only speculate where that road is, and how far it goes. Then we have to guess which of the houses along this road is number 23. Boo suggests that Hagabodavagen goes all the way from Hagaboda to Boo. So the house should be in the Boo area. Just past the Kundsam there is a burned house that might be the one.
So any ideas about this?
Below I marked the road that I think is Hagabodavagen.
Mmh we should take a closer look at that.
At least there doesn’t seem to be any map of boo ingame that could help, so we have to search.
Edit:
Well, I tried to check the houses, signs and letterboxes, but I neither found the name, nor the street. But many, many Perssons
I know no concrete clues, but if we were to guess, which house do you see as a likely candidate?
I asked Google, if there is any logic for housenumbers in sweden.
In short, usually they start from the center of the town with even numbers on the left and uneven numbers on the right.
I’d think the hagabodavägen is the road to hagaboda, which could be different roads, of course.
As it seems to go through boo, too, it could become a difficult case.
The question is: where does the hagabodavägen start?
I don’t think it starts in boo itself, as the road from boo towards the main road to hagaboda just seems like a sidearm of hagabodavägen.
Following this main road further, it goes through boo bruk ab, passes Östra Mark and finally ends next to Littorp. If that’s the case it’s somehow weird, as the road leading to the north through north coast region is closer to hagaboda than the way through the farmlands.
On the other hand, the road could be split at Östra Mark. While the main road passes boo bruk ab, the northern side arm would go directly through boo.
Following the logic of the housenumbers, uneven on the right side, it could be possible that the number 23 is the destroyed house in boo… Or any other house on this side.
As stated earlier, most letter boxes have the name Perrson on them, none has “Khorsandi”.
But there is one without any name, east of the bridge in boo. It’s on the right side, too.
You may go on.
I am as stuck as you, I merely wanted to hear what you guys / girls best guess would be, given the missing data.

I have another scene, that is not totally clear about what transpired here. I think we see a resistance camp site, with 2 dead resistance members and 2 dead Soviet soldiers. There are wine bottles and beer cans.
What do you think was the narrative here.
- Soviet Patrol stumbled on camp, everybody got killed.
- The four were drinking together, FNIX machines killed them.
- The four were drinking together, drunken conflict arose, everybody got killed.
- Some other idea you might have.
I’d vote for this, but we don’t know who or what killed them. Maybe they killed each other because a joke or a discussion escalated.
What a great mystery! Ok, my pure speculation is that the site was a temporary meeting or extraction point set up by the Resistance to smuggle two Soviet defectors out of Soviet controlled territory (we’re not far from Chjornyjj Kabsn Soviet outpost). The ladder on the floor (with no structure high enough to necessitate one nearby) and a septic tank (only a guess of mine as to what this structure is) on the site suggest access to underground infrastructure, possibly an old waste tunnel or bypass system repurposed by the Resistance for covert movement.
The plan may have been to wait for a safe window, then descend into the septic access tunnel and follow it to a Resistance hideout or safe zone to the north east (Guldangen CP)
But unfortunately the group got comfortable. The presence of tinned Pytt i Panna and bottles of wine suggests the four sat down together for a shared meal, possibly to calm nerves, possibly as a gesture of trust between factions. They recognised each other as humans not factions with a machine threat as the common fear. They relaxed.
That vulnerability proved fatal!!!
While distracted, they were likely detected! Possibly by Soviet scanning devices that look for unusual heat signatures or sudden clusters of bio-signs. The six Soldier-class Lynxes I encountered when I went to investigate strongly suggest a targeted sweep or rapid-response strike. All four bodies have blood upon them and with no human weapons around in site (again demonstrating the mutual trust they all had for each other) the likely perpetrators being those very same Lynxes and their Burst Assault Rifles.
The lesson we can take from all this is that even in times of war and division, shared humanity can build bridges……but trust without caution can be deadly in a world ruled by machines.
Another lesson: Popping corks? Might as well fire a flare!

Here is another scene that looks like an alien abduction where only the flesh of the human was beamed up or incinerated, and clothes and knife were left behind.
What is your guess?
I remember coming across this scene when I first started playing years ago, and I had the same questions. What I didn’t realise at the time was that all players are equipped with Geiger counters, and when mine started clicking near the clothes and that strange green goo, it really caught my eye.
As far as I know the game doesn’t give us a clear explanation for what this green radioactive waste actually is. We do know that Apocalypse class machines can fire radioactive ammunition, and there are plenty of barrels of radioactive waste scattered throughout sheds and bunkers across Östertörn. But these green puddles seen different, more deliberately there. Have they completely irradiated whoever was wearing those clothes? It’s possible. The scene suggests someone may have been defending themselves, though that could be a red herring. There’s also a fire pit nearby, and even a tray with potatoes and apples left out, more likely they were in the middle of cooking and about to peel a potato.
So why would radioactive material suddenly be dropped on them?
One possibility, which again is pure speculation, is that it was a high intensity radiation burst from a machine, something like a mini reactor overload or a directed energy discharge. A blast like that could cause rapid molecular breakdown, effectively vaporising any organic material while leaving clothing and gear behind. It’s also possible that the tech used here was designed to specifically target living tissue. Radiation affects biological cells much faster than inanimate objects, which might explain why everything but the person is left behind. But there is no evidence of this kind of tech in game. And the Apocalypse class machines don’t travel this far south.
As for the presence of radioactive waste, there are a few possibilities. It could be a leftover from the Soviet occupation up north; their military tech and experimental weapons would almost certainly involve radioactive elements. The Resistance might also have been moving or using it, either to sabotage machines or as part of some desperate defensive plan. If this individual was in the wrong place at the wrong time, near sensitive tech or an important site like Skatvern bunker nearby, they might have been deliberately eliminated. But why go to such weird lengths?
Targeting just one person could indicate they were a defector, an informant, or someone carrying sensitive information. It might have been a calculated removal to prevent a leak or simply a clean up of a perceived threat. It could even be a killer sending a message. There is an apply in that tray so I may even be inclined put the blame on Kenneth!
And if I was an alien, I would’ve taken the apple, too!
With this kind of environmental storytelling, you just don’t know for certain, there aren’t any clear clues to follow. But that’s what makes it so much fun to try and figure out! I’m actually enjoying decoding these scenes even more than doing the spot the location challenges now!
