Machine behaviour post April 2020 update

As @Scrumpox said the machine aggression is fine and the Tank MG range needs to be somewhere in the middle between the old and the new range parameter.
If they “fix” the Rockets arc and the extended weapons range that almost all enemies have, the game is going to be balanced but still challenging which is great.

Should a tick be able to leap with pinpoint precision through a church steeple window 75 feet in the air?

I think the new aggressive enemies is a good idea, but at the same time it’s too many of them. Here’s a point: if you make an enemy too strong make fewer of them. This is how classic survival horror works.

GZ isn’t survival nor horror by design, but was kind of creepy when I first started playing it. I’ve preordered the game right after I saw the trailer, because it was so similar to Black Mirror Metalhead episode and I like this slow creepy atmosphere.

GZ indeed was similar, but after I got all the best weapons it became a cakewalk (just run and gun). Now enemies are much more dangerous and this is fine, but it’s too many of them. It’s annoying, not scary.

Year ago I was scared by a hunter outside of a bunker. It was 1 hunter and couple of dogos, they were dangerous b/c I didn’t have firepower to take them down. Now I know there’re 8 hunters, dozens runners, harvester (with infinite supply of hunters) AND I do have firepower to take them down, but it’s just tedious to do. Not scary, not hard (mechanically), just tedious and annoying.

I’d rather fight (or run from) fewer very strong enemies than be overwhelmed by not-so-strong pack of enemies. That would be balanced imo.

As a new solo player this game is infuriating. To the point where I’m thinking of quitting after only 20 hours or so. You can’t go anywhere without getting your arse handed to you by overwhelming numbers of enemies that not only spam attacks (those perpetual rocket attacks are an absolute joke, there is no travel time on the rockets for a start) but can seemingly teleport into buildings that have all the doors shut. Hell, I even had two Hunters just appear in a living room earlier, not only were all the doors on the house shut but how the hell did they manage to fit?

Honestly, my advice for now, is to either find people to run with, or stick a pin in the game, and check back to see if this is fixed. It’s manageable if you’re really on the ball, but stuff is not working correctly right now.

Robots don’t follow players after they’ve been detected. They won’t try to get closer or reposition to get an angle on players behind cover. If I run around a corner the robots will just keep shooting the corner and won’t try to chase me. This behavior is most common in machines with long range weapons like snipers and mortars. They will hang back and be content to fire at a distance even if they won’t be able to hit me. This makes it very hard to lure them into traps that I’ve laid. Even when using sound lures like radios and alarms robots usually only take a few steps towards the lure before losing interest. Why are you giving me so many landmines when I can’t even get enemies to walk into them?

same problem here, also i noticed that if i start combat i stay in it and they agro for unlimited range alot of the time. meaning they will continue to try and snipe me even if i am 2k away… to reset i have to die or log out, fast travel does not seem to matter as when i return to the area they are still agro on me.
they also shoot through hills and cover / houses as if it is not there.

can somebody explain how an tank can fire missile with 100% accuracy from a range that my 16X scope can’t pickup the enemy. Im in the Sorken Bunken and wanted to use the bridge just south of it. But thats not possible cause there is an Tank that have decided to camp at that bridge. So I guess my only option to pass that bridge is to walk all around it. Would be ok if not for the fact that I have to do it in sneak mode. Cause for some reason that tank will se me if I try to run. Even if Im so far away I can’t see him on scope. Doesn’t help that I ran out of healthpacks ages ago. So its pretty much, spend 30min trying to walk to an objective only to get shot and without healthpacks I need to just die and respawn and try again doing that same “fun” 30min walk.

Actually tried to fight the tank. But after I put my entire 40 clip mag of 3 star AG90 into the rocket weapon bay and it still kept firing. Well I guess the tank have some cool alien shield.

And this on “adventure” mode. First time Im ever put an game on easy mode. Not that I’ve noticed any difrence from Skermich and adventure at all. Its like there isnt any diffrence at all.

Care to explain how your PVG90 (aka .50 cal) has 40 round mag? Are you using 3rd party game mods?

Btw, tanks have weapon range limit and it is much shorter than the view distance you can see with 8-16x scope.

my entire 40 rounds I had on me. and that tanks have range limit Ive havntr noticed. Not when they fire across mountains ranges. Or like I said the bridge next to Boo Bruk. I was way north of Soren Bunken and it stilled managed to shell me.

Was kinda sad too just now when I managed to kill an Fnix harvester after a long and very difficult fight. and all it dropped was 1 medpack and 44 mag ammo and steel resources.

I really want to like this game but it aint making it easy to be liked :expressionless:

Thought so, since PVG90 has 10 round mag (or 18 round mag with 5* mag mod).

All tanks and harvs have their weapon range limited to 200m. While 200m is quite far to engage with conventional weapons comfortably (SMG, assault rifle), it still can be done. Though, for PVG90 and especially with 8-16x scope, 200m is perfect engagement range.

Wonky AI bug, that came with the last update, is the one that makes GZ quite difficult. But chances are good that it gets fixed in next update. :slightly_smiling_face:

Why does there need to be a penalty to dying? I can understand that some people want more of a challenge, but come on. If the devs really wanted to create that death penalty, a survival mode should have been added. One life, no fast travel, you die and then you have to start all over. Fallout 4, Skyrim, Ghost Recon Wildlands/Breakpoint, they all have a campaign survival mode. Granted, Avalanche would have to find a way to fix the campaign progression and stash storage between game saves to make it a true survival playthrough.

My real concern is that this “update” wasn’t even beta tested before it was released.

ok, this is getting nuts. they target anywhere you are now? do not stop shooting, not even the normal pause. you can spend 15-20 minutes in hiding and they just pelt in your direction non stop. can you and least hot patch this and just turn the agro down so stealth still works a bit?

Death penalty
Last time we’ve got hunters and runners inside the camp safehouse I went from about 15 to 50+ deaths, it was a constant volley of flechettes, ticks and rockets from near harv, almost nowhere to hide.
In such case my XP would be in negative values.

That’s funny, because i’m seeing the exact opposite behavior. I had a hunter chase me down a road, yesterday, i had a group of them surrounding the church i was in, and kept repositioning, to get a better shot at me. I had 6 of them chase me to a safehouse, surround it, and try their best to get me.

I’m not calling you a liar, i’m saying something may be even MORE screwed up than we though.

I uploaded some new examples of machine behaviour on the EASIEST difficulty (Adventure).
These examples just go to show how hard the game is right now. I could personally deal with these enemies as I had experimental weapons and loaded with medkits, but given that this was not so far into the game, a new player would have had to deal with these enemies using 1 and 2 star weapons only. And THAT might be too much to ask. I play on PC via an Xbox (bluetooth) controller. I have the proximity warning turned off by default.

  1. Ambush in woods
Comment: Enemies just started peppering me with bullets without any sound or prior warning. They were perfectly hidden in the woods and it actually took me a while to find them - as if they were purposely hidden. It took me totally and completely off guard, just like a perfectly planned ambush. It was unreal. Difficult but doable. On easiest difficulty? Mmmmaybe, but perhaps not so early on in the game.

  2. Attacked by 14-15 hunters AT THE SAME TIME
Comment: If you check the video, you’ll find that I am initially attacked over long range by a group of about 6 hunters. When I run for cover I am getting cross-fired from another direction by a new group of 4 hunters. Running for my life now, into the woods a THIRD group of about 4 hunters engage me in addition to the two previous groups. Insanity ensues. Please notice the frequent and pinpoint accurate long-range attacks that the hunters spam me with.
Difficulty: For sure NOT suitable for easiest difficulty. I could deal with them but new players? Hmm…

I know many people are experiencing this issue, not only me. Especially casual players. The new difficulty brought with the April update is overkill. I mean seriously, I’m on adventure and get my ass kicked when going after 1 hunter. It takes like 50 7.62mm bullets to kill 1 hunter from a special AI 76! That’s rigged. Especially with Apocalypse class, it’s impossible. If the devs read this, plz fix it.
