maybe this is off the topic a little but why to devs make games where if you start a new game it automatically deletes the one you are playing or the one you just finished?? I mean the only way to say it is do download that save to a different file location which like on a PS4 means a external drive of some sort. That is one thing I have never understood and most games are now doing that, except if they have the New Game+ option which very few have. I am not sure of the difficulty of this function or why it’s done…but I do have a problem with the fact you do NOT have a manual save option in this game. Yes it does same allot but there are times when I have to leave or stop playing because of my disability and I have lost tons of things simply because everything goes back to the last save point where it might mean several things. Just trying to understand why this should even be so much an issue to Devs & why it’s done

For a game to remember and factor in your previous run = more coding on the devs part. Rather than wiping the progression and starting anew.

that I didn’t realize and now makes allot of sense to do it that way & explains allot in many open world games…but I find some do and some don’t. But if you start a new game, why couldn’t you have a new save slot?? I mean you wouldn’t be using the other game…or does it fall unto the same situation?

Depending on a game, one save can get pretty big, increasing the size of the game on your storage drive.

I’ve had games with multiple save slots, where late-game saves got as big as 10 GB per save. Make 10 saves and that’s 100 GB. It’s something that you don’t want if your storage drive (SSD) is 240 GB in total.

yea I had issues with those things playing SKYRIM…so I got an external for my PS4 for that reason so saved data is on the machine & the base on the external. I understand that part…but how does that effect a “New Game”? Because wouldn’t they be separate?? I ask because when I was working on the SIM, it was one of those required things cause you had to have something separate for every pilot that went through & for us too, but granted we had super servers etc to deal with…cause there are times I want to start over in this game but I don’t want to loose the progress I have made already…but I wanted to try different approaches, if that makes sense…I appreciate the feedback from you…helps me understand more of what can & can’t be done

Well, everything can be done but all that requires time, manpower and money.

Well, i’m not a programmer and don’t know the in-depth workings of a game, especially Apex Engine. It is possible that the game is unable to work properly at it’s current state, when it needs to factor in specific details from your previous run.

New Game+ has been asked several times in dev streams as well and here are dev answers;
1st one is at 00:42:05 and it explains a bit about the current save system as well,

2nd one is in another dev stream, at 00:50:09 and there devs give hope that it may come to the game,

The GZ save are in MB, miss.
Mine is 2.3MB…

Well, i did say: “depending on a game”, didn’t i? Thing is, it is hard to tell why devs went with this route, where you can’t make a New Game easily. I guess they have their reasons.

You sure did, miss.
I merely said, for GZ it’s few MB.

You can always save to a USB flash drive.
It´s what I do with some games. specially those with no new game Plus.

thanks for the help and now makes it a bit easier to understand as well… appreciate it

The New Game option is missing from the Main Menu on the computer.
I wish I had a choice of games from the very beginning.
When I started playing “Generatio Zero” there were some important updates missing. I’d like to be able to restart the game with all the tweaks. First of all, I would try to play it better. Sorry for my english (google translator).

My wife and I truely enjoyed this game. We have played every FPS coop campaign game there is. The only thing We have always wanted was to be able to play it from start again without deleting our original characters; so we can use them in dlc’s as they come out like we did with FNIX Rising. We are currently playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint again with new characters and would love to be able to do the same in Generation Zero.

You can create up to 4 characters in Generation Zero. This way, you can keep your original character and when new content releases, make a new, level 1 character, to play the new content.

I would love to replay the story again as well. Without sacrificing the progress I’ve made with my characters.
I really wanna relive the unwrapping of the plot.

Yes I guess I didn’t make myself very clear at all. I would like to be able to play from the start the storyline again with all the missions and the plot like you said RoZo. Like the Borderlands games, start and Character and start from the beginning of the story, or start the story over with your original character, only at a tougher level (true vault hunter). Sorry Aesyle if I was unclear, but thank you for the reply

There actually is a method of starting a new playthrough, and keeping your original character all in one. Though you cannot do both at the same time.

If you’re on PC and want to start a fresh save but keep the old character, navigate to your documents folder, show hidden files, find avalanches folder, find Generation Zero, find saves, then copy and paste them into a different folder outside of the avalanche folder in your docs and you’re good to go to erase your characters with that original save stashed in a different folder.

On console it’s a bit trickier, but only by a marginal amount.

On console you need to have a USB or SD hooked up, navigate to your system, on ps4 this is found at the very end of your top bar, not positive on Xbox but you just need to locate your saved data.
then you have an option in your saved data menu to copy files to a SD, so select that option and tick off GZ then accept. the save should be moved to your SD and permanently safe there to be moved back onto your console later if you so choose.

*On xbox head to the ‘Storage’ menu and you will now be able to select any data you wish to back up, to access a menu select the save you wish then select ’ Transfer ’ and you should be able to move any saves you want!

Now for consoles i’m not sure if you need to turn off cloud saves, but i did back when i was on PS4 and had zero issues over the span of like a year and a half
(plus manual back ups are better than cloud saves don’t @ me)

EDIT: some contextual info added, and xbox info added
