Proposal for a prioritized bug list, sourced from forum members

Hi, everyone. I’ve been asking around, and I have a proposal to put to the community. It may be a waste of time, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to put the idea out there. Clearly there are a lot of feelings about GZ closing down (and the state of the game in terms of bugs), ranging from nostalgic and understanding to downright angry. I’m not going to begrudge anyone their feelings on this - we’re all entitled to our opinions.

Given that it has been such a dedicated and positive community, I thought we could get together and make one last plea for some fixes, backed up by some data. I know the devs might not have the ability to act on any of these requests, but I don’t see how it can hurt to ask.

I propose we use this thread to assemble a list of the 5-10 bugs which we feel have the biggest negative impact on the game, or on the liklihood that the game will be purchased by future players. I’m sure there could be some lively debate about which should be in such a list, and that’s fine. If we are able to put together such a list, we could do a poll among the forum members to rank them in order of priority to fix, and then we could present that prioritized list to the devs via the official support page, with usernames attached to add some legitimacy.

I can’t see this hurting anything, but as Madchaser pointed out to me, it won’t serve any purpose if there are only 6-10 people participating  I have no idea how many current, active members there are here on the forum, and out of those I don’t know how many would want to participate in this effort.

Thoughts?

I would suggest we avoid items where there was a lot of discussion about whether it was a bug vs. a design change, such as render distance, or the new rare materials structures for bases. But of course this is a community, so people should feel free to propose whatever they think should be on the list, or to not participate at all. If you do think this is pointless, please don’t flame - just say so politely. If you’re into bile and taking out your frustrations on other members, please take it to the Steam forums instead. This has been a good place, and as it closes down it deserves to stay civil.

Thanks for considering!

Updated list below (will move to a more formal document if we get a lot of good responses)

  • FMTEL points issue/tank level rewards impossible to obtain.

  • Deployables/throwables and the companion disappear if the game has been running for an indeterminate period. Note that the companion can be “reset” and will appear back in your inventory by interacting with a companion station.

  • Other icons disappear/replaced by garbage images after a certain amount of playtime (ex: refueling and repair icon for motorbikes) - seen on PS4, need to check other systems.

  • XP splash screen shows a running total per session, instead of the points just earned, and repeats the “new level” info when earning XP after a level-up. Solved by restart.

  • Companion light/paint/voice selection screen does not load icons (all systems) and selection box does not move (PS4). Previews on companion model do seem to work.

  • In Base Defense, enemies continue to spawn even after the mission is complete.

  • LazerCykel arcade machines are not working.

  • Weapon splashes lag, and take longer and longer the more you play.

  • Rivals can sometimes vanish (anywhere on map, no specific area, but often in the “överbyan triangle”). Markers will still be on the map, but the Rivals cannot be seen in the game world. May be fixed with one or more restarts.

The biggest one I want fixed is the arcade machines they added not working. (LazerCykel)

@Hubble
Good initiative, no matter how the chances for a success are. :+1:

@GlitchBane Seriously? The first post on this very good idea and then that? I’d put it in the drawer “bug vs. feature”.

@all Try to think about bugs that affect all players. And I mean bugs, not missing features or just a bad design descition. If we’re even able to get some time from the devs to work on our loved game, then we need good reasons.

For example

  1. Fmtel has the same issue all the time on all systems for all players. Just 1 point per completed mission which makes it impossible to reach tank level.

  2. The XP counter, its splashscreen or the splashscreens in general that often pop up for information (XP, picked up stuff, base assault rewards) don’t work like they can be expected to work. And this almost in the same extent for every player: what starts with delays can stop working at all during a session, XP counter always is sumed up during a session, XP progress bar always reacts on it as soon as you got enough XP for the next level during a session.

  3. Deployables / throwables / (deploying) companion vanish from the screen instead seem to not apply for all users or in all cases in the same extent. I personally don’t have this issue on PS5. Idk if it’s the same for others on PS5, too, so maybe it’s just an issue for PC and/or Xbox. I usually play about 2 to 3 hours in a row. But I also didn’t try multiplayer since the hotfix yet.

For me, besides of those mentioned issues, I currently/recently didn’t have anything to report as bug. There may be more, maybe especially mission related ones.

Please list them all and add an info on which system your playing on and if it just happens under certain conditions…and which ones.

Thx

You might want to add, that of three of the companion appearance tabs, the pictures do not load. Light kits, Paint Jobs and Voice.

Plus, at least for me when I tested it on PS4 a few minutes ago, you can’t even see which one you select.
The selection marker doesn’t move on all these tabs.

Added the commpanion icons issue to the post up top. If the response to this builds, then we can move the list to a more formal document. In there, we can ID which systems show which bugs (PC vs XBOX vs PS4/5), and whether the bugs are being seen consistently by everyone, or just in certain, unpredictable cases.

Please keep the thoughts coming!

I think this one comes along with other issues, but also depending on unknown factors:

In some cases after some time it can occur that icons don’t show up in popups, for example if you point on your motorbike to refuel it, the icon for the fuel canister may be missing/replaced by a purple square. Same with the repair kits.

Not game breaking or much important, but still an issue which may annoy players.

Definitely the infinite base defense bug, where machines keep spawning after a base defense is over, very annoying, since the game is more base defense focused now. And great idea by the way, let’s hope they decide to fix at least some of these issues!

Wait, were you referring to me when you said “Gletschern”? Also, I think it is a bug it isn’t working.

Sorry, yes I was. I obviously clicked the wrong name

I think we should add this one, too.

Seems to be a gap in the worlds where rivals vanish.
Maybe even more… And maybe they cause further issues, too.

:open_mouth: Oow, that’s like GZ’s own “Överbyan Triangle” where machines, who dare to roam there, vanish never to be seen again.

I’m not a 100 sure, but on PC for me, this one and other minor bugs havn’t shown up after the new year event started?
The difference was immediately so marked that I had to check if I had missed a patch notice, but no. Only the New Year’s event had started.

And to the list, The weapon splash screen that just lags more and more until it “crash”.
btw, even that runs better right now but after some time it’s just far behind again and finally it dies.

Who knows what else might disappear there/to there and maybe fills up the memory more and more over time. Maybe the överbyan triangle is responsible for many issues related to performance, or the splashscreens and so on.

Memory is full and no space for other handles, If you reload or do a fast travel to somewhere else it gets freed again (total/partly)…

It’s a situation impossible to recreate forced, so who knows… The affected players should submitted their safegame Files to the Support.

I thought so too - I tested this out after the hotfix, and thought it was fixed. Then I played a longer session (3+ hours, not sure exactly?) and it returned. It seems to be related to time elapsed in a session, or as Madchaser suggests, to memory leaks. We aren’t a testing team, and it will be difficult for us to reliably reproduce all these issues the way a formal QA team could. But I think this one is still an issue.

Once the list grows to a certain size, maybe we can spend some time trying to fill in some details. Like ID’ing which systems each bug appears on, if it’s not all of them, and any info about how to consistently reproduce each one.

Sorry - I’m actually not familiar with the arcades games  When you wrote that, I was assuming it was a joke about a background object in the game, an arcade cabinet, that you thought should be playable.

Is there actually a playable game within the game???

I’m stilling finishing up Alpine Unrest and the final 2 main missions in FNIX Rising, so I may not have seen this yet…

There is one you can interact with, but without anything happening.

Even if… I don’t think that many of the still existing issues are reproduceable at all, as they just happen.
If there are even more places below the surface to where machines disappear to, it could explain some performance issues. But you’ll never know… Except with those rivals in this reported case. It’s not actively reproduceable, but happened to more than just one player.

@Hubble, thank you for proposing this. I hope it can generate a positive response from the developers.

For me the most important bug is the FMTEL points issue. The vast majority of the playing time that I have logged in this game were in working towards the tank level rewards each week. This is now impossible and, at one point per achievement, the hunter level rewards are not worth the time.

At least on PC and in singleplayer, I’ve found that the other bugs have workarounds:

  • The companion can be respawned if you restart and access a companion station. This has become second nature at this point.
  • The companion appearance icons being missing looks rubbish, but at least the preview shows the appearance on the companion model.
  • The disappearing rivals eventually appear after enough restarts - some took just one restart, while an apocalypse harvester that vanished in the farmlands took several, over the course of a few days.
  • The XP counter can be annoying, especially if it keeps repeating that you’ve levelled up, but the XP seems to increment correctly, and the worst parts of it are reset after a restart.
  • The delayed splashscreens are annoying, but those splashscreens are irritating anyway. If I can’t pay attention to what I’ve picked up it is because something much more urgent has my focus, so I don’t want a big banner blocking the middle of the screen!

The FMTEL bug seems to have no workaround, which is why I rank it as the most important.

So it’s just delayed. Hadn’t have the time to do more then my “normal” 2 hour sessions but thought about what would happen if I played longer.

The new island (and klinte) have interactable arcade cabinets that make sounds when you put a coin in, and were supposed to have a game called LazerCykel (At least that is the writing on the side of the machine…
