Here a strange looking Toad rock that I photographed, but can’t find back anymore, because I forgot to take a map location screenshot like I always do.
So if you fancy a difficult hunt, this is it. Only thing I can think of is that it was on Archipelago, but I am not absolutely sure.
That’s a fine example of simulacrum, the shape really does look like a toad. Looks like a difficult challenge, and I’m up for trying it. I’ll start my search around the Archipelago and see where it leads. Hopefully I can stumble across it and get the coordinates.
I found the big rock toad! It is in the Archipelago! (2735.436, 2793.468) perched on the cliffside near that spot some reckon has writing etched into the rock, not far from the dead tank still letting out its final drone breath. He’s a lot bigger than I expected from your screenshot and it really does look like a giant toad. It wasn’t hostile btw.
Also, I finally got my physical copy of Generation Zero today! I’m tempted to get a cheap Xbox One and play it offline, just to see if it’ll play the original version with the old school inventory, holy hand grenade, and all that jazz. Probably wishful thinking but still, it feels great to have a proper, physical copy in my hands. Viva la Résistance!!!
Yes, that was fun! First time I saw it I was totally confused and had absolutely no idea what it was all about. So I choose to ignore it and felt a little bit hurt that the devs apparently didn’t take the game quite as serious as I did. Later I came to appreciate these funny twists and Easter eggs like the stairway to heaven, the Magritte floating rock , and - not to forget - the Volvo DeLorean.
The first (and only) time I used the holy hand grenade I almost got myself killed
Thx.
Yeah, somehow it goes into the same direction.
But the trigger for this thread simply was an official Twitter-Event initiated by Carni. Just like I wrote in the first post.
Yes, kind of I remember doing it in my “world exploration” phase, both because of the interesting places and the funny anormalies we came across. But your thread turned out to be much more catching and involving . Really good idea with this “pub quiz”.
Yes, sometimes threads turn into something different than initially intended
Let’s give the explorers something new to look for. The 3 newspapers caught my eye as being unusual. Normally we see only one lying around. And here one of the newspapers has blood on it. Did someone sleep here?
Okay, my first guess was Saint Maria’s Church as @Madchaser thought, but can’t find it there.
The tricky part is the distances. A safehouse can show up on the compass from as far as 250 metres away. A relay beacon, on the other hand, will appear at 100 metres but then drop off your radar entirely at about 325 metres. That means the possible radius we’re dealing with here is deceptively large.
So, the game is on and I’ve got my eyes peeled for this bench.
I found the bench with the blood-stained newspapers in Östervik (1142.907, -35.041). I worked out the location by triangulating it using the safe house and beacon markers, this was a great clue!
From what I can piece together, it looks like a couple of guys decided to hold out when the machines attacked. Not far from the bench, there are two bodies, a tray with bottles, and even a picnic table with beer cans on it. I imagine they were sitting on the bench, laid the newspapers down so they wouldn’t get wet from the snow, and cracked open a few beers in defiance of the machine insurrection. Then, runners must have attacked. They probably tried to save the beers on the tray and make it into the nearby confectionery shop, but didn’t make it, falling just outside the back door. They tried to save the beers before themselves. True heroes, gone but not sober!
Nice one.
Tried to do the same, but östervik indeed fell out of my focus. I guess I was confused by the many texts and markers there on gysberts map and Just thought, that there would have to be more locations on the compass.
I had such a great time reading through this old thread! All the posts are so well written! It’s the kind of post that reminds me why I love browsing this forum in the first place. It also got me wondering if anyone knows if that René Magritte floating rock is still somewhere on the map? I’d love to go hunt it down if it’s still out there.
